Kilimanjaro

7 DAY RONGAI ROUTE

Your Dream Climb Starts Here

Overview

The Rongai Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border. It is quieter than other trails, with gradual slopes and wide views across the plains. This 7‑day plan includes an acclimatization day at Mawenzi Tarn (Day 4), which gives your body more time to adjust before the summit push. The descent follows the Marangu Route, so you experience two sides of the mountain. It’s scenic, less crowded, and offers a balanced pace for success.

A well-presented driver will be at Kilimanjaro International Airport for pick up and followed by a one-hour drive to your hotel/lodge in Moshi town. Your guide will be coming at your place where you stay for pre-climb briefing and gear check.

Hiking Time: 4 – 5 hours

Habitat: Moorland

Around midnight, we begin our trail up to the summit. This is the most challenging part of the trek. The wind and cold at this elevation and time of day can be extreme. We ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks. At Gilman’s point (18,600 ft), magnificent sunrise will be coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we arrive at Uhuru Peak- the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. After spending a few moments taking in the plains of Africa and your accomplishment, we descend to Horombo Hut. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.
