Overview

The Lemosho Route offers a scenic and gradual ascent to Kilimanjaro’s summit, ideal for climbers seeking high success rates and breathtaking landscapes. This journey blends adventure with comfort, ensuring an unforgettable experience from forest to glacier.



You arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, tired but excited. A driver meets you and takes you to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. You’ll check in, freshen up, and enjoy a good meal. Tonight is for rest and preparation. Tomorrow, the mountain adventure begins.

Elevation: 2,100 m to 2,650 m / 6,890 ft to 8,694 ft

Distance: 7 km / 4.3 mi

Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Habitat: Rainforest

Description:

After breakfast, you drive 3 hours to Lemosho Gate. You’ll register with park rangers and meet your mountain crew. The trail starts gently through thick forest, full of birds and monkeys. You’ll walk slowly uphill, breathing fresh mountain air. By afternoon, you reach Mti Mkubwa Camp and settle in.

Distance: 8 km / 5 mi

Hiking Time: 5–6 hours

Habitat: Moorland

Description:

You leave the forest and climb into open moorland. The air gets cooler and the views stretch wide. Strange plants and rocky paths appear as you go higher. You’ll stop for lunch, then continue to Shira 1 Camp. It’s quiet, open, and perfect for your second night on the mountain.

Habitat: Moorland

Description:

Today is a gentle walk across the Shira Plateau. The land is flat and wide, with golden grasses and big sky. You’ll take your time, enjoy the views, and let your body adjust. The trail is peaceful and quiet. Shira 2 Camp is a great place to rest and watch the sunset.

Distance: 10 km / 6.2 mi

Hiking Time: 6–7 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert

Description:

This is a big day for acclimatization. You climb up to Lava Tower, a tall rock at high altitude. It’s tough, but helps your body prepare for the summit. After lunch, you descend to Barranco Camp in a deep valley. The cliffs and giant plants around you feel surreal and beautiful.

Habitat: Alpine Desert

Description:

Description:

You climb slowly to Barafu Camp, your last stop before the summit. The land is rocky and cold, with strong winds and open skies. You’ll arrive early, eat dinner, and rest as much as you can. Tonight is short—your summit climb starts around midnight. Get ready, tomorrow is the big day.

Habitat: Arctic to Rainforest

Description:

You wake in the dark and begin the final climb with headlamps. It’s cold and steep, but you move slowly and steadily. At sunrise, you reach Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa. You celebrate, take photos, and feel proud. Then you descend all the way to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.

Habitat: Arctic to Rainforest

Description:

Your final walk is through soft, green rainforest. The trail is gentle, and your legs feel light. At the gate, you sign out and receive your summit certificate. You say goodbye to your mountain crew and head back to your hoteln
